Cavite Gateway Terminal operational by Sept.: DOTr

MANILA — The Cavite Gateway Terminal (CGT), which is seen to reduce the volume of trucks on major Metro Manila roads, is expected to be operational by September, the Department of Transportation said Tuesday.

The facility, which will become the country’s first container roll-on roll-off barge terminal, will ensure efficient transport of cargo goods from the Port of Manila to Cavite and will be integrated with other major port facilities in Luzon.

“Without delays due to bad weather conditions, completion of construction and start of operations of the Cavite Gateway Terminal will be at the end of September this year,” the DOTr said in a statement.

DOTr Secretary Arthur Tugade led the inspection of the ongoing construction of the terminal, alongside Undersecretary for Finance Garry de Guzman, Undersecretary for Maritime Felipe Judan, Assistant Secretary for Maritime Andoy Perez and representatives from the International Container Terminal Services Inc. (ICTSI)

Located on a six-hectare property in Tanza, Cavite, the CGT will be operated by ICTSI. It is expected to reduce truck trips in Metro Manila by 140,000 trips annually.

Road traffic would be reduced by approximately two kilometers of trucks when the terminal starts operations. (Aerol John Pateña/PNA)
