BACOLOD CITY – The Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOCPPO) has reported a drop of 56.38 percent in the crime incidents during the three-day observance of Undas this year.
The NOCPPO said in a report late Friday that from October 31 to November 2, the police listed 41 incidents down from 91 cases during the same period the previous year.
Inspector Charmae De Paz, public information officer of NOCPPO, said in a press statement that the decrease in crime volume could be attributed to the intensified security measures through the deployment of policemen in cemeteries, public markets, transportation hubs, and other places of convergence.
She added that the information and education campaign of the police against criminality also helped reduce crimes.
Police preparedness and cooperation of the public are most important factors in considering a peaceful and safer All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day observance, the NOCPPO said.
Superintendent Rodolfo Castil Jr., police provincial director, acknowledged the sacrifices and applauded the efforts of the policemen in Negros Occidental.
Earlier, the Police Regional Office (PRO-6) lauded its units for the “generally peaceful” observance of the Undas in Western Visayas.
“It’s another job excellently done together,” said Superintendent Gilbert Gorero, spokesperson of PRO-6.
He said that no major untoward incident was reported in the region from Tuesday to Thursday.
October 31 was declared a special non-working holiday ahead of the All Saints’ Day on November 1 and the All Souls’ Day on November 2.
Gorero said heavy downpour did not stop policemen from diligently performing their respective tasks.(Nanette Guadalquiver/PNA)
