DA validates Region IV-A ‘Gawad Saka’ nominees

IMUS CITY, Cavite – The Department of Agriculture’s (DA) Regional Technical Committee (RTC) in Region IV-A is now conducting on-site validation of entries to its Regional ‘Gawad Saka’ (RGS) Search 2017-2018.

The RGS is DA’s annual award to recognize farmers, fisherfolks and raisers as well as groups who have excelled and made significant contributions in the enhancement and developments of the agriculture and fishery sector in their respective communities and the country.

In an update received from the DA Regional Field Office IV-A Thursday, the “Livestock” RTC, headed by Regional Livestock Program Coordinator and Committee Chairperson Vilma Dimaculangan, validated the small and large animal raisers’ entries for Batangas in Agoncillo, Batangas on May 13.

Committee on “Corn” Category, headed by Chairperson for Outstanding Corn Farmer (OCF) Avelita M. Rosales, started validating Tuesday two of the four nominees for Calabarzon region.

Rosales, joined by Committee Vice Chair Rolando P. Quasay and member Eleonor de Jesus, interviewed Adelino D. Ojos (Tiaong, Quezon) and Cenon L. Javier (Calamba, Laguna).

Rosales said validation visit is done not only to assess and validate the information provided in their respective scrapbooks but to also get the stories, demeanor and passion for agriculture of the nominees.

The team proceeded to visit Pablito G. Bautista from Teresa, Rizal and Potenciano A. Rivera from Sto. Tomas, Batangas on Wednesday and Thurs, respectively and will be completed by Friday, May 18.

A total of 8 categories are scheduled to be validated by their respective committee chairpersons and members until its submission to the Regional Secretariat by May 25 for another set of review and validation by the National Executive and Technical Committee. (Gladys Pino/PNA)
