DOH Bicol confirms 2nd COVID-19 case among evacuees

A close contact of the first COVID-19 case among evacuees in Albay has tested positive for the disease, the Department of Health (DOH) in Bicol reported Wednesday, June 21.

The case is one of the 30 close contacts of the first case from Brgy. Gabawan Evacuation Camp. The other 29 contacts were negative for the disease.

The second case has no signs or symptoms of COVID-19 but remains in local isolation.

Local health authorities are in search of probable close contacts of the new case.

One Mayon Surveillance team sought help from the Local Epidemiology Surveillance Unit to strengthen its task to find possible close contacts of the patient.

The Albay Provincial Health said it continues to conduct health education in evacuation camps to prevent the spread of the virus.

Evacuees are also urged to complete their vaccination up to date and to follow health and safety protocols. -ag
