DPWH assigns route number for national roads in Western Visayas

A national Route Numbering System (RNS) is now in place along the Philippines’ national road network system in Western Visayas Region.

Instead of the usual different names of the long road section, the assigned route numbers in Region 6 will provide road users an easy familiarization with road sections and assist in planning travel itinerary.

The route numbering system is usually composed of 4-digit alpha-numeric sign (one letter and 3 numbers), 2-digit alpha-numeric sign (one letter and one number) or a 3-digit alpha-numeric sign (one letter and two numbers).

Road users will also expect that all roads of a certain classification, and of certain numbering scheme, will have similar performance standards.

RNS was introduced in 2014 by the Department of Public Works and Highways to simplify and rationalize navigation along national roads classified as primary which directly connects major cities of at least around 100,000 people; and, secondary or other roads which complement with the national arterial roads to provide access to main population and production centers of the country by directly connecting cities, major ports, airports and ferry terminals, and tourist service centers.

The route numbers for the national primary roads in Region 6 are as follows: N5 – Iloilo–Capiz Road, Jaro Spur Road, Mandurriao–Jaro Road, Senator Benigno S. Aquino, Jr. Avenue; N6 – Bacolod South Road (Bacolod–Kabankalan–Mabinay–Bais); N7 – Bacolod North Road (Bacolod–Cadiz–San Carlos), Dumaguete North Road (San Carlos–Dumaguete–Bayawang); and N69 – Negros Occidental Eco-Tourism Highway.

National secondary roads with corresponding assigned route numbers are: N501 – Ibajay–Antique Boundary Road and Iloilo–Antique Road (Pandan–Sibalom, Hamtic–Iloilo); N502 – Aklan West Road (Nabas–Buruanga) and Pandan–Libertad-Aklan Boundary Road; N503 – Aklan West Road (Nabas–Kalibo), Aklan East Road, Capiz–Aklan Road, and Roxas–Cagay–Sibaguan–Balijuagan–Cudian–Ivisan Road; N504 – Jaime Cardinal Sin Avenue; N505 – Iloilo East Coast–Capiz Road and Old Iloilo–Capiz Road; N506 – Cuartero–Tapulang–Maayon Road and Maayon–Bailan Junction Road; N507 – Iloilo East Coast–Estancia Wharf Road; N508 – Iloilo East Coast–Capiz Road (Barotac Viejo–Zarraga); N509 – Iloilo–Leganes–Dumangas Coastal Road; N510 – Passi–San Rafael–Lemery–Sara Road; N511 – Iloilo Airport Direct Road; N512 – Old Iloilo–Capiz Road (Iloilo–Calinog), Passi–Calinog Road, and Senator Benigno S.
