DPWH sees completion of Otis bridge before end-2018

MANILA — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) on Wednesday said it will try to finish the construction of Otis Bridge in Paco, Manila before the end of the year.

DPWH Secretary Mark Villar noted that they are fast-tracking the construction of the bridge which measures some 50-80 meters with approach, four lanes (two lanes each).

Pipilitin natin matapos (We will try to finish it) before year end. Ongoing ang construction (Construction is ongoing),” the DPWH chief told reporters during the inspection of the project.

Villar added that if they finish the PHP37-million project before the end of this year, it would be ahead of the February 2019 target completion.

Lahat ng board piling, tapos na (All board pilings of the bridge are finished),” he said.

Last June, the bridge was closed to motorists after authorities found cracks in the middle part of the more than 20-meter structure.

The bridge was constructed in the 1960s. (Ferdinand Patinio/PNA)
