DTI intensifies price monitoring in quake-hit areas

MANILA – Trade and Industry Secretary Ramon Lopez has directed intensified price monitoring in Luzon areas hit by Monday’s 6.1 magnitude earthquake.

In a message to reporters, Lopez said he has given Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) personnel in the National Capital Region (NCR) and the regional offices until 11 a.m. Tuesday to submit their reports on damages and business disruptions to Undersecretary Zanaida Maglaya.

Maglaya heads the agency’s Regional Operations Group, which has been tasked to oversee DTI’s field operations in the provinces.

“Let’s also ask price monitoring teams to report price situations in groceries and supermarkets and public markets,” the directive added.

Early Tuesday, Malacañang suspended work in government offices in the National Capital Region to lessen the load on public transportation system.

Governors of quake-affected areas were also tasked to assess damages in their provinces and put in place measures to ensure the safety of their constituents.
