Fare hike for LRT not yet final

The Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) clarified on Thursday, Jan. 12, that proposed fare hikes for LRT-1 and LRT-2 are not yet final and are still up for approval.

In a statement, LRTA stressed the fare increase will still go through “proper process.”

“The fare increase must be approved by the LRTA Board of Directors, and must likewise pass through required regulatory process which includes public consultation/hearing,” LRTA said.

The LRT’s current fare is P1 per kilometer (KM) plus a boarding fare of ₱11.

Once approved, the proposed hike would increase the distance fare by P0.21 per KM, making the new fare P1.21 per KM, and the boarding fare by P2.29, or a total of P13.29. With a report from Karen Villanda/KC – gb
