DAVAO CITY–Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio expressed gratitude for President Rodrigo Duterte’s “rigid discipline,” attributing her father’s stern guidance to her own achievements today.

The Presidential daughter, in a Father’s Day message to Pres. Duterte on Saturday, said her father was hard on her about education and work.

“You impressed upon me that I am not a person if I am not a lawyer or a doctor and if I do not work for our country,” she said in her message, which began with the salutation “Dear Digong”.

“I would not be where I am now if I did not have you as a father and my Mama. I have your twisted sense of humor and the drive to achieve and these are some of my useful tools as I navigate life,” Mayor Sara said.

In an interview, the mayor said the discipline from her father and the latter’s emphasis on the value education and work, are the same values she would instill on her children.

She recalled that when she was growing up, her father would also impress on her that education should always be used for the good of the country.

“Nadala nako sa akong mga anak nga unsa tong pinaka highest education attainment nga kaya nimo financially, physically and mentally mao to ang i-aim (Whatever the highest educational attainment that you are capable of financially, physically, mentally you have to aim for it),” the mayor added.

While her father is known to be tough, the mayor said she has never experienced physical punishment during her childhood. (Lilian C. Mellejor/PNA)
