Gilas final 12 vs. Chinese Taipei bared

MANILA — On the eve of its FIBA World Cup Qualifiers showdown against Chinese Taipei, Coach Chot Reyes announced the Gilas team that will play against the Taiwanese side.

In a meeting over lunch on Thursday, Reyes named Jayson Castro, Terrence Romeo, Jio Jalalon, Matthew Wright, RR Pogoy, Calvin Abueva, Troy Rosario, June Mar Fajardo, Japeth Aguilar, Allein Maliksi, Gabe Norwood, and naturalized player Andray Blatche to the squad that will play on Friday night in the Taiwanese capital.

Reyes actually brought in a 15-man pool to Taipei on Monday Gilas with Baser Amer, Carl Cruz, and cadet Troy Rike being the other three players. The three reserves will still be considered for Gilas’ Monday night home game against Australia at the Philippine Arena in Bocaue, Bulacan.

Already assured of a spot in the second round of the qualifiers, Gilas looks to get a win on the road against Chinese Taipei to give the squad a moral boost when the squad battles Australia, led by NBA players Thon Maker and Matthew Dellavedova. (PNA)
