Hospitals, frontliners in Region 3 get nano enhanced alcohol from CLSU

As a response to COVID-19 situation, Central Luzon State University (CLSU) will distribute nano enhanced alcohol to health facilities and frontliners in Region 3.

“The nano-structured alcohol we will distribute is made of 70 percent ethyl alcohol infused with nano particles and laden with turmeric extract”, said CLSU Vice President for Research, Extension, and Training Services Dr. Fe Porciuncula.

The project is called,”CLSU-DOST 3 Collaboration Against COVID-19: Production and Distribution of Nano- Structured Alcohol in Central Luzon’. DOST 3 funded the initiative, she said.

“A total of 4,500 liters (250 containers 10 liters and 400 containers 5 liters) of nano enhanced alcohol will be produced and distributed within five (5) weeks in Central Luzon”, she said.

“A study on the use of zinc oxide nanoparticles as nanomedicine shows that the mixture could kill the H1N1 Influenza and SARS virus, which are both a family of corona virus”, pointed out Dr. Juvy Monsarate of CLSU Nanotechnology Facility.

Bataan Peninsula State University Vice President for Research, Extension, and Training Services Dr. Hermogenes Paguia said, the Bataan General Hospital and Medical Center and Jose Payumo Jr. General Hospital will be given each 200 liters of nano enhanced alcohol under the project.

Aside from hospitals, frontliners like military and police, barangays will also be given the alcohol. CLSU also produces local ethanol and hand sanitizers using nanotechnology.
