Hundreds of voters troop to Laoag Comelec

LAOAG CITY — About 300 residents of this city went to the local office of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Saturday for the last day of voters’ registration.

Tessie Diego, assistant provincial election supervisor of Comelec-Ilocos Norte, said hundreds of new voters, including persons with disabilities (PWDs), visited the Comelec office to ensure they can vote in the May 13, 2019 midterm elections.

As expected, Diego said, “People are fond of last-minute deadlines.” She thus appealed to them to be patient with the long lines.

The poll body provided priority lanes for senior citizens, PWDs, and pregnant women.

Before 8 a.m., the registrants proceeded to the Office of the Election Officer in their respective city, municipality or district so they could finish early.

The Comelec announced earlier there will be no extension of the voters’ registration. For 2019, the Comelec is expecting 60 million to 61 million voters nationwide. (Leilanie Adriano/PNA)
