New MMDA Chair vows continuity of Lim’s programs

Newly-appointed Metro Manila Development Authorization (MMDA) Chairperson Benjamin Abalos laid out his plans for the agency Tuesday.

In a public briefing, MMDA Chair Abalos shared the advice of President Rodrigo R. Duterte, “in fact, sa pagsumpa ko po kagabi, isa lang po ang sinabi sa akin ng Presidente (in my oathtaking last night, the President only said one thing), just do all your best for the country.”

Abalos revealed that he will focus on the EDSA busway system, U-turn slots, and the motorcycle lane along EDSA. He stated that the meeting between him and the officials of the Department of Transportation (DOTr) is already scheduled on Wednesday.

“Talaga pong napakalaking sapatos ang aking pupunuin. Napagaling po ng pamunuan ni Gen. Lim at ng kanyang grupo (I really have big shoes to fill. The administration of Gen. Lim and his group was remarkable). There will be continuity here, I promise you that,” he vowed.

Abalos then disclosed that the MMDA will also be busy with the roll out of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccines since the agency will serve as the coordinator of the national government and the local government units (LGUs). – Report from Karen Villanda
