The Anti-Terrorism Act of 2020 has been questioned anew before the Supreme Court (SC) as the Philippine Alliance of Human Rights Advocates filed its petition seeking the issuance of a temporary restraining order (TRO) on its implementation.
The petitioners said such law may be used for the wrongful arrest of individuals who are only suspected as terrorists or members of terrorist groups. They asked the High Court to declare as void and unconstitutional some portions of the law which they deem in conflict with the 1987 Constitution.
This is the twenty-eighth petition filed against the said law.
The SC earlier decided to conduct oral arguments on the matter next month. – Report from Kenneth Paciente
