MANILA — The residents of Barangay Bagbag in Novaliches, Quezon City marked on Sunday the 122nd anniversary of the martyrdom of Dr. Jose P. Rizal with a simple commemorative program and floral offerings at the hero’s monument in the area.

Bagbag Barangay chairman Richard V. Ambita led the wreath-laying activities.

He was assisted by Barangay Secretary Rolando Pascor and other officials.

In his brief message, Ambita urged his constituents, especially the millennials, to be inspired by the heroism and principles of the national hero who was executed by the Spanish colonial government on Dec. 30, 1896, or shortly after the outbreak of the revolution launched by the Katipuneros led by Gat Andres Bonifacio.

Ambita said he and his fellow officials in the local barangay council are leading commemorative activities about the heroism of Rizal at least twice a year — on his birthday on June 19 and on his martyrdom on December 30.

The Rizal monument in Barangay Bagbag is located in front of the barangay hall near the Pagkabuhay Parish Church off Quirino Highway in Novaliches.
