OCTA suggests vaccinating 50% of COVID-19 high risk areas’ population

The OCTA Research recommended the vaccination of at least 50% of the population of areas under high risk classification based on their average daily attack rate (ADAR).

Based on its report dated May 24, this includes the National Capital Region, Tuguegarao City, Santiago City in Isabela, Baguio City, Cainta, Cebu City, and Imus City in Cavite.

OCTA said vaccinating half the population of the areas will support containment measures to prevent transmission. It also proposed prioritizing the vaccination of regions that suffered heavy economic and public health impact of the pandemic.

The group said 40% to 50% of the vaccines should be allocated to NCR, 15% to 20% to Calabarzon, 10% to Central Luzon, 6%to Central Visayas, ang 4% to Western Visayas.

The group earlier recommended allocating 90% of the vaccines in NCR. This was not approved by the Department of Health (DOH).

“Nakita naman natin na bumababa na ang mga kaso dito. Nakapagbigay din ng sapat na allocation sa NCR Plus Bubble para makatulong naman po para sa pagprotekta ng mga vulnerable,” DOH USec. Maria Rosario Vergeire said in a briefing.

“Pero allocating 90% of supplies in NCR Plus Bubble, sa tingin namin hindi appropriate at ‘di po namin kaya sa ngayon because ‘di pa naman ganoon ka-stable ang supply ng mga bakuna,” she added. – Report from Mark Fetalco/AG-rir
