Pfizer may receive full US FDA approval by September – PH official

National Task Force (NTF) Against COVID-19 Chief Implementer Secretary Carlito Galvez confirmed that the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is aiming to grant full authorization for the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine by early September.

“Baka [sa] September [ay] magkaroon na ng full authorization ang Pfizer or Moderna,” Galvez said in a public briefing on Monday (Aug. 23).

Galvez explained that once Pfizer receives its FDA full authorization, the private sector will be able to procure such a vaccine.

Galvez said Moderna and Sinovac COVID-19 vaccines are also applying for full authorization from the FDA.

“I believed ang Moderna po at saka iyong Pfizer, they are applying for full authorizations ng kanilang mga vaccines considering that maraming ano eh, hundred millions na po ang gumagamit po ng mga vaccines nila,” Galvez said.

“Ang magiging impact nito is, once the two companies and even Sinovac, they are also applying for full authorization, once na naaprubahan na sa kanila, sa mga countries nila, they will also apply to us [for full authorization],” he added,

Galvez said the vaccine manufacturers’ application for full authorization here may fall in between December this year and first quarter next year. – CF-rir
