PH Army chief meets counterpart in Moscow

MANILA — In line with the ongoing efforts to create more military linkages, Philippine Army (PA) commander, Lt. Gen. Macairog S. Alberto paid an official visit to the Ground Forces of the Russian Federation in Moscow on Monday.

The visit is upon the invitation of Russian Ground Forces Army chief, Gen. Oleg Salyukov.

“We recognize the evolving security threats that our country faces and international cooperation is necessary to effectively address them. Our Russian counterparts’ experience in combat against various threats and the subsequent training will enhance our own capabilities that will help us in accomplishing our mission,” PA spokesperson Lt. Col. Ramon Zagala said in a statement late Tuesday.

During Alberto’s visit, a meeting was conducted to discuss issues such as bilateral military cooperation, training of Filipino servicemen in Russian military schools, and participation of Philippine teams in the International Army Games.

During the visit at the Combined Arms Academy of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, the PA delegation was also acquainted with the academy’s organization, types, and peculiarities in training its officers.

Also included in Alberto’s tour was a visit to the Tank Guards Command of the Western Military District and the Research Institute of Precision Machinery. (
