PhilHealth considers shouldering med expenses of vaccine recipients with adverse effects

The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) is considering the proposal for it to shoulder the medical expenses of those who will experience adverse effects from the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccine.

In a press briefing, PhilHealth President and CEO Attorney Dante Gierran disclosed that they are thoroughly reviewing the recommendation from the Department of Health (DOH). It is part of their board meeting’s agenda this coming Thursday, February 18.

The agency also assured that it is ready to respond to those who are in need of an indemnity fund in spite of suspending the contribution increase from its members.

PhilHealth Pres. Gierran revealed that they have “reserved funds” that can be used in situations like this.

Meanwhile, Philhealth has been coordinating with the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to probe cases of fake COVID claims or individuals pretending to have COVID-related illnesses. Report from Kenneth Paciente
