The chief of Quezon City Police District (QCPD) submitted on Wednesday, Aug. 30, his courtesy resignation amid road rage controversy.

PBGen. Nicolas Torre III filed his courtesy resignation as QCPD director following the public’s remarks on him about the press conference for Wilfredo Gonzales.

Gonzales was the motorist on the viral road rage video.

Torre took responsibility for the press conference, but he insisted that he was not protecting Gonzales, also a former cop.

“I am sensitive to the sentiments of the people. I think it is the best action right now to preclude any continuing insinuations that I am influencing the investigation of this case,” Torre said.

“I would like to say I have never coddled any criminal. As a police officer, I have sworn to protect the rule of law,” he added.

Meanwhile, Gonzales’ driver’s license has been suspended for 90 days.

All three guns of Gonzales have also been confiscated by the Philippine National Police-Firearms and Explosives. GB/Patrick de Jesus-ag
