SC Senior Associate Justice Carpio bids goodbye to SC staff

During his last flag ceremony prior to his retirement on 26 October 2019, Supreme Court (SC) Senior Associate Justice Antonio Carpio was in mixed emotions as he expressed gratitude in his farewell speech to the court’s personnel for their unwavering support as he carried out his duties as SC judge.

In his speech, he expressed joy for having served the Filipino people by strengthening the country’s justice system and sad for leaving his second home of almost 2 decades. He was appointed as associate justice in 2001 by then Pres. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.

With his 18 years stint in the High Court, Carpio has issued 935 complete decisions, 79 dissenting opinions, 30 concurring opinions, 13 separate opinions, and 4 concurring and dissenting opinions. He is also proud to leave without a backlog.

The Judicial and Bar Council has already submitted the shorlist for Carpio’s replacement including Court Administrator Jose Midas Marquez, Court of Appeals Justices Manuel Barrios, Edgardo de los Santos, Japar Dimaampo, Ramon Garcia, Jhosep Lopez, Pablito Perez, Ricardo Rosario and Maria Filomena Singh.
