Slight increase in NFA rice price not due to TRAIN law

LINGAYEN, Pangasinan — The National Food Authority (NFA) has clarified that the slight increase in the price of NFA rice is not an effect of the Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion Act (TRAIN) law.

Marissa Jacinto, provincial industry services officer of the NFA branch in Western Pangasinan, explained to Philippine News Agency on Monday that the NFA rice being sold is of good quality, with grains that are white, and not broken.

The ordinary NFA rice is sold at PHP32 per kilo; while the regular milled rice ranges from PHP36 to PHP38 per kilo, and the well-milled rice at PHP40 per kilo.

Jacinto said that while the price of NFA rice slightly increased, it is still being patronized by majority of people and is quickly sold in markets.

She said they are limiting the supply of NFA rice that they are delivering to authorized dealers from 15 sacks in the past to just three sacks per week.

Jacinto said the agency is doing this because there are sufficient rice stocks now being sold in the market from last month’s harvest.

She said there is also enough supply of commercial rice in the market today. (PNA)
