979,200 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine to arrive on March 22

Vaccine Czar Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr. announced Monday evening that 979,200 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine will arrive in the Philippines on March 22.

In President Rodrigo R. Duterte’s weekly public address, Sec. Galvez reported that the COVAX facility of the World Health Organization (WHO) has given the country a warning order that the additional doses of AstraZeneca will be arriving soon. However, the doses may arrive on the first week of April in case of delay.

Sec. Galvez shared that WHO Country Representative Dr. Rabindra Abeyasinghe instructed to expedite the disposal of the first batch of 525,600 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine to avoid any postponement for the second tranche.

“So ang sinasabi niya po ay talagang darating po ang AstraZeneca na this coming May. Mayroong 4.5 million na darating na AstraZeneca at ‘yong sa pangalawang tranche po ngayon na binigay po sa akin na information ng DOH is 979,200 po ang darating this March. (So what he’s saying is the AstraZeneca [vaccine] will be arriving this coming May. There will be 4.5 million doses of AstraZeneca vaccine and based on the information given by the Department of Health (DOH), 979,200 [doses] are arriving in March).” —NGS, PTV News Online
