2 Caloocan cops in Arnaiz shooting relieved

MANILA — The two Caloocan police officers implicated in the shooting of 19-year-old Carl Angelo Arnaiz last month were ordered relieved from their posts.

This was disclosed by PNP chief Director General Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa during a briefing at Camp Crame, Quezon City Monday.

The relief of PO1 Jeffrey Perez and PO1 Ricky Arquilita was ordered by National Capital Region Police Office head Director Oscar Albayalde as authorities looked into the August 18 incident.

Arnaiz was shot dead by the two police officers allegedly after he robbed a taxi driver identified as Tomas Bagcal last Aug. 18.

Bagcal sought the help of the policemen who were on a routine patrol in the area.

As the lawmen were about to accost Arnaiz, he reportedly fired at the officers, prompting them to fire back.

Police claimed they found marijuana and shabu in the possession of Arnaiz.

The victim’s relatives, however, refused to believe that he was into illegal drugs. (PNA)
