The government of Baguio City has immediately suspended the operations of the famous night market in the city due to reported lack of crowd control and noncompliance with the physical distancing rule.
The night market reopened on December 1 after months of halt in operations due to restrictions in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We must strike a balance between reopening the economy and safeguarding the health and safety of the people. This is our new normal direction,” Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong explained.
Police forces and personnel of the Public Order and Safety Division (POSD) were deployed during the opening to enforce the implementation of health protocols.
City officials are set to convene to discuss the matter. They will also conduct a post assessment to tackle effective measures to maintain a safe and organized operation of the night market. – Report from Jorton Campana/PTV Cordillera
