Oldest Las Piñas resident receives vaccine vs Covid-19

By NG Seruela

‘Lola’ (grandmother) Tomasa V. Amurao, also known as “Nanay Po,” is the oldest resident of Las Piñas so far that has been vaccinated against coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

The 101-year-old resident of Barangay Talon Dos, City of Las Piñas, was inoculated with AstraZeneca vaccine on Thursday (April 1).

According to her grandson, Dr. Benjamir M. Cabrera, he accompanied his grandmother to the vaccination site. He says Lola Tomasa has not experienced any side effects, but only complained that the needle was sharp — ‘Matalas ang karayom,” she said.

Cabrera added that his grandmother has a medical clearance proving that she can safely receive the jab.

Many have lauded the bravery of Nanay Po as well as the support and love shown by her family.

Also present at Nanay Po’s inoculation were the doctors of the City Health Office as well as site supervisor Dr. Violeta Jequinto, who verified the patient’s vaccination.

In relation to this, individuals who have already been jabbed, such as health frontliners and senior citizens, will be closely monitored by health workers to ensure their wellbeing after receiving the first dose of the vaccine.

Meanwhile, the public is encouraged not to be afraid of the vaccine because it will be their protection against Covid-19.
