NDRRMC data: 156 dead, 37 missing due to Odette

At least 156 individuals have been confirmed dead due to Typhoon Odette which made landfall last week, according to the latest report of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).

A total of 68 casualties were reported in Bohol, 54 in Cebu, 17 in Negros Oriental, four in Agusan del Sur, three each in Palawan and Misamis Oriental, two in Guimaras, and one each in Iloilo, Negros Occidental, Misamis Occidental, and Butuan.

To date, 37 remain missing and 275 were injured during the typhoon’s onslaught.

The death toll reported by the NDRRMC is lower than the tally of the Philippine National Police (PNP). The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) clarified that the latter has only raw details.

“Hindi naman po dini-discount ni NDRRMC ‘yung reports na ‘yan coming from our counterpart agencies. But we’re treating that as a projection on how [many] casualties we can expect,” NDRRMC Spokesperson Mark Timbal said.

The NDRRMC report showed that 304,837 families or 1,113,373 individuals in 3,238 barangays were affected by the typhoon, while 481,196 persons were displaced.

The damages to infrastructure and agriculture were estimated at P225,307,000 and P162,878,949, respectively. These cover 6,184 damaged houses, 24 damaged infrastructures, and 6,893.77 damaged hectares of crops.

Moreover, 236 towns had power outages and interruptions, and 135 towns with telecommunications problems. – Report from Bea Bernardo/AG-rir
