Pediatric vaccination step to protecting the community – vaccine expert

By Pearl Gumapos

Infectious disease expert and member of the Vaccine Expert Panel Dr. Rontgene Solante on Monday (Feb. 7) said the pediatric vaccination of five to 11 years old is an important step of the government in protecting the community.

“This is an important step of the government because we know children, especially 5 to 11 years old, are also as vulnerable as the elderly. Extending this vaccination, protecting this population is an important step of the government to protect the community,” Solante said during the Laging Handa public briefing.

Meanwhile, Solante emphasized the importance of information and education when it comes to vaccination. This, after a petition was filed by some parents to halt pediatric vaccination.

“Baka hindi lang nila alam kung gaano kaimportante ang bakuna sa mga bata. Nakikita natin na ang mga bata ay isa sa mga target ng COVID-19 na ‘pag nagka-COVID-19 ka, napaka-severe ng infection,” he said.

“We need to educate, we need to inform them [o]f the importance of vaccination at this point in time,” he added. – ag
