Comelec condemns bomb threat made by TikTok user on May 2022 polls

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Saturday, April 16, condemned the bomb threat and false claims posted by a TikTok user about the May 2022 elections.

In a now-deleted TikTok video, an individual warned the poll body against “rigging” the election results against a presidential candidate.

“Comelec, umayos kayo ha. Ngayong darating na election, dapat walang dayaan. Subukan nyong dayain si Bongbong Marcos, subukan nyo lang, papasabugin namin kayo, magkakagulo dito sa bansang Pilipinas, tandaan nyo yan,” the TikTok user said.

Comelec Spokesperson James Jimenez said individuals making threats against the poll body and making false claims about the upcoming national and local elections should also be condemned by candidates.

“Apart from making false claims about the elections, this is a clear bomb threat, and it is just one of several we’ve found using the same words and possibly the same audio,” Jimenez said in a tweet.

“Candidates should condemn this madness,” he added.

Meanwhile, retired Comelec Commissioner Rowena Guanzon warned that making bomb threats during the campaign period should be considered an election offense.

“Bomb threat during [the] campaign period is an election offense. The [Comelec] Law [Department] can file a complaint against this man,” Guanzon said. – bny
