Magnitude 5.2 quake jolts DavOr

A magnitude 5.2 earthquake jolted Davao Oriental early Wednesday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.

The tectonic quake struck 103 km. southeast of the municipality of Tarragona at 4:37 a.m. and had a depth of 62 km.

Intensity IV was felt in Tarragona and Caraga, Davao Oriental, while Intensity III was reported in Manay, Davao Oriental.

Phivolcs also recorded the following instrumental intensities:

Intensity II – Malungon, Saranggani
Intensity I – Tupi, South Cotabato; Nabunturan, Davao de Oro

Reported intensity is based on reports of people who felt the earthquake, while instrumental intensity is measured using an intensity meter that measures ground acceleration.

Aftershocks are likely but damage is not expected from the earthquake.

Damage starts at Intensity VI, based on Phivolcs’ scale. – gb
