PBBM orders PSA to fast-track printing of national ID

By Katrina Gracia Consebido

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. ordered on Tuesday, Dec. 6, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) to fast-track the printing of the digital version of the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) ID or the national ID.

“Let us print out as [much as] we can and then isunod natin ‘yung physical JID as soon as we can,” Marcos told National Economic and Development Authority Secretary Arsenio Balisacan and PSA officials.

The PSA board discussed the printing capacity and flow of data from PSA to the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP).

PSA Undersecretary Dennis Mapa said his agency continues to work with the BSP to accelerate Phil ID production and printing.

Mapa earlier attributed the delay in ID card printing to the influx of PhilSys registrants.PSA began printing digital Phil IDs in October.

Through the printed Phil ID, registered users can quickly access financial and social protection services requiring proof of identity, subject to authentication, according to the PSA. – gb
