Malaybalay IP reps start 2-year capacity training

MALAYBALAY CITY, Bukidnon—All 46 Barangay Indigenous People’s Mandatory Representatives in this city have started their two-year training workshop program that aims to develop and enhance their competencies.

The first session started on February 16 at the Bukidnon State University (BukSU) Auditorium in Malaybalay City, where the IPMRs were accompanied by seven staff members.

Bae Bede Blaise Omao-Maghilum, IPMR to the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) of Malaybalay, said the focus of the program is to capacitate the IP representatives, specifically in legislation.

“Most Barangay IPMRs have no background in making resolutions and ordinances. To cope with this gap, they must know the basics in drafting or making resolutions and ordinances,” Maghilum said.

She hopes the program would lead to better service for their IP constituents in the province.

The program, in partnership with BukSU as one of the university’s extension projects, requires participants to attend six sessions within a year or 12 sessions for two-year training workshop.

Bukidnon is one of the few local government units in the country that require IP representation in local councils. (Mel B. Madera/PNA)
