Police, OMB seize P65-M worth pirated DVDs, CDs

DAVAO CITY – A  team from the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) and the Optical Media Board (OMB) on Thursday afternoon raided stalls in different areas in the city, resulting in the confiscation of some PHP65 million worth of pirated DVDs and CDs.

The raid was conducted following the signing of Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between DCPO Director Senior Supt. Alexander Tagum and OMB chairman and chief executive officer Anselmo Adriano early this week.

Senior Insp. Maria Theresita Gaspan, DCPO spokesperson, said the joint task force is composed of different police units led by Adriano and Tagum.

Gaspan said the teams seized 443 sacks of pirated movie soundtrack DVDs, in violation of Republic Act 9239, otherwise known as the Optical Media Act of 2003.

She said the confiscated items are in the temporary custody of the DCPO pending their subsequent turnover to the OMB in Manila. (Rhoda Grace Saron/PNA)
