DTI lures Calabarzon MSMEs to join US, Canada trade fairs

TAGAYTAY CITY, Cavite — Department of Trade and Industry Region IV-A Assistant Director Marcelina Alcantara on Tuesday encouraged businesses, entrepreneurs, producers and exporters from Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon to join the Calabarzon trade and business delegations in a roadshow of the region’s products in the United States and Canada’s trade fairs slated this August.

Alcantara pitched the region’s “superfood” products as she formally welcomed the businesspersons and traders from the region to the DTI seminar on “Doing Business in Free Trade Areas” under the Philippine Export Competitiveness Program at the Tagaytay Country Hotel.

Alcantara said that the forthcoming international events are slated in New Jersey, USA as well as Toronto, Canada during the first and last week of August respectively.

She said “Fiesta in America” would be celebrating its 25th milestone year of staging the event.

The New York trade fair will be marked with trade pavilion, food court, plus kids’ area and cultural performances on stage.

Also, the event to be staged at the Meadowlands Exposition Center in Secaucus, New Jersey slated Aug. 11 to 12, this year.

Toronto, on the other hand, will be hosting its 5th Annual Coconut Festival and Marketplace from Aug. 25 to 26, to be held at the Pecaut Square.

The event is designed to connect all communities to learn about the coconuts’ various health benefits and will feature vendors from Asia & Pan America selling coconut in its various uses, from food, wellness, cleansing, cosmetics, fashion and more.

Alcantara, who will head the August delegation, is targeting “at least 20 small and medium enterprises (SMEs)” which could join in the region’s product promotion and exposition.

DTI will be availing of at least three booth spaces, “which we will share to interested MSMEs,” said Alcantara.

The DTI regional assistant director also assured assistance to the MSMEs in event coordination, documentation requirements and visit facilitation.

“But, they will have to pay for their airfare, hotel, food and other expenses, but we can always assist by recommending how things are done and where they could get the best deals to make these events a win-win for participants,” said Alcantara. (Gladys Pino/PNA)
