KIDAPAWAN CITY – The number of dropout students in public schools in the city during the school year 2018-2019 has “tremendously dropped” compared to the last school calendar year, the local chief executive here said.

Speaking during his State of the Children Address on Friday, Mayor Joseph Evangelista said the number of school dropouts among students in public elementary and high schools was only 77 to date, compared to more than 700 last year.

“This is the result of our massive programs for school children studying in public schools to keep them inside school campus,” Evangelista said.

He primarily attributed the dropout reduction to the financial aid extended to poor but deserving students by the city government, giving them a PHP300 monthly allowance each.

Evangelista said the city government, through the city council, has appropriated PHP12 million fund for this school year.
