BACOLOD CITY — The Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) is conducting a series of drug awareness and prevention symposiums in both public and private schools in this city as part of the observance of the Police Community Relations (PCR) Month.

Chief Inspector Sherlock Gabana, public information officer of Bacolod police, said Thursday he conducts the lectures for college students while he has tasked the PCR in-charge of the 10 police stations to lead the campaign for high school and elementary students.

Gabana, who is also officer-in-charge of the BCPO Police Community Relations Unit, said that through this strategy, they aim to cover all the public and private schools in all levels.

“This is one way for us to raise drug awareness among the students and also provide them crime prevention tips. They would then know how to identify those who are engaged in illegal drugs,” he added.

Gabana said they have reported cases of high school and college students engaged in illegal drugs, either as users or pushers.

“If you think about it, it is alarming. It should be the schools that should first tell the students not to get involved in illegal drugs. They have the obligation to help in steering away the students from vices,” he said.

On Wednesday, Gabana conducted a drug awareness lecture to about 600 freshmen students of the Visayan Maritime Academy Global College in Barangay Sum-ag.

Meanwhile, the Police Station 4 PCR personnel led by Police Officer 2 Ryan Rainer Bonito held a similar lecture for more than 50 Grade 10 students of Romanito Maravilla National High School in Barangay Estefania on Thursday. (Nanette Guadalquiver/PNA)
