BAGUIO CITY — The Society of Outstanding Citizens of Baguio (SOCOB) has started soliciting donations of any published materials about Baguio and its people for the “Baguio section” of the city library.

“We thought of having the section to highlight the good deeds, the accomplishments, and the many positive information about the people of Baguio. We also want to place in the collection the books written by people from Baguio,” SOCOB vice chairman and library committee head, lawyer Lulu Tabanda, said during their monthly meeting on Wednesday.

Tabanda said the group, composed of former recipients of the city government’s top award given annually on Baguio’s foundation day, said it is just one of their projects to encourage the locals to continue “caring” for Baguio and their town mates, wherever they may be.

“We are accepting books, handouts, magazines, anything written and published,” she said.
The written materials will be donated to the city government through the SOCOB as part of the library.

Meanwhile, the Department of the Interior and Local Government has reminded local government units and the public in a memorandum that November is “Library and Information Services” (LIS) month.

This year’s celebration has the theme: “Ang Kulturang May Malasakit, Sa Aklatan ay Makakamit”, and is covered by Presidential Proclamation 837 series of 1991.

“The month-long celebration will help raise public awareness on the invaluable service that libraries and information centers provide,” the DILG memorandum said, noting that it will also highlight the important role of libraries and information centers in upholding the  Filipino culture and values.
